This past summer, Sophia and Isabella led Indigenous art and story workshops in collaboration with the president of the center, revered Cahuilla/Serrano elder Ernest Siva, as Pre-Texts Interns. The Pre-Texts methodology was developed at Harvard University, and uses art created from literature and stories to improve public health and literacy. We used this methodology to foster Indigenous language learning among intergenerational participants, through sharing and analyzing cultural stories and songs to create original artwork.
